2016 Dauenhauer Farms Blaufränkisch Image

We love Blaufränkisch wines and are ecstatic that we found 30-year old vines at Dauenhauer Farms. Located in Dayton, Oregon, the Dauenhauer family has been farming in the valley for generations and we are happy to be working with them to bring this hard-to-find Oregon wine to market. The vineyard is dry-farmed and the vines are only lightly managed, resulting in a protective canopy that allows the grapes to stay on the vines late into harvest. This wine was fermented using native yeasts and aged in neutral French oak barrels.

The resulting wine is a great alternative to Pinot Noir for the summer. Visually, this wine is a deep red-blue hue, with lightness near the edge of the glass. On the nose, it expresses a surprising juiciness, with intense notes currants, pepper, and woody spices. On the palate, it is light and refreshing, yet the maturity of the vines is apparent in the well-developed fruit. The woody spices linger on the palate and the wine finishes with minerality, medium acidity, and softness.
